I haven't yet tried the Aberlour, though I'm going to soon and then post my notes. I have no idea how that Ledaig is going to turn out now if it has the weird oak issue too. Not entirely sure what it was K&L saw in these casks and it makes me wonder about the quality of the ones they turned down.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-35386263060028077742014-01-12T02:15:41.124-05:002014-01-12T02:15:41.124-05:00Just tasted your sample - thanks Michael. Tastes kinda like American craft whisky, not in a complimentary way. Not a trace of Bowmore character, as far as I can tell. I've also noticed the dissonance between the sweet, spicy nose and the peaty taste. Interestingly, it's quite similar to the K&L Exclusive Malts Aberlour 2000, except for the peat (and minus the peaches in the Aberlour). Similar spicy, new makey hotness, with bees wax and artificial vanila sweetness. Maybe both of them were aged by Exclusive Malts in their same set of off-beat casks. Now I'm nervous about opening the Exclusive Malts "Island" 7yo!Florinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14445344658258056628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-16772052907085784252013-12-19T16:00:23.053-05:002013-12-19T16:00:23.053-05:00Nice... the one i had was from 1993 and 18yo as fa...Nice... the one i had was from 1993 and 18yo as far as i remember. I think there might be a Glen Garioch or two coming to the US next year.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-32829463507776577632013-12-19T14:48:37.565-05:002013-12-19T14:48:37.565-05:00Thanks. The two from this week changed so noticeably that it seemed more appropriate to review them at different points in the bottle.

I believe your sample came from just above the halfway point. So hopefully the oak is under control.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-62798226411311660482013-12-19T06:47:33.792-05:002013-12-19T06:47:33.792-05:00I only have made good experiences with Exclusive M...I only have made good experiences with Exclusive Malts. I once had a lovely Glen Garioch from them which is now hard to find. I really think their prices match the quality of their malts.Cobohttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AotN2KgtfxHfdFIxcE5qWl9CZ0RCY0F4Y3lfaTNNMVE#gid=1noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-59924016490333136702013-12-18T15:09:56.532-05:002013-12-18T15:09:56.532-05:00Very nice exercise.
